Bryopsis let the battle begin

20 posts in this topic

Guys I have had an out break of bryopsis and was manually farming it out. It has started to get hold so I thought I would try Fluconazole .

It is tricky to get hold of in England but easy enough from America . I have seen it for sale at a LFS for £5/ tablet on offer OUCH !!!!

i paid 44 dollars including postage for 20 capsules 200mg

i will let you know how I get on.

I am expecting my skimmer to go nuts with the die off from the bryopsis but will leave it turned off for 2 days .

This is a 14-21 day one off treatment so no water changes for up to 3 weeks.

This is also aledgedly a great treatment for GHA

More than a little. Wouldn't dream of trying something like that as your tank is looking so good. Good to catch up today mate.

The reason I left the cup off was in case of a ph drop for the first 24 hours. As it kills the bryopsis there will be nutrient release so I expect lots of skimmate

Have to say after adding the Fluconazole the fish activity went crazy like a feeding frenzy.

No lights on yet this morning but my Ph and ORP have stayed rock solid.

Will let you know if any changes when lights come on. I’m not expecting to see any changes till around day 4

Not yet, just wiring up the 2nd doser to give reef energy a try. What started out as a quick thing as turned into a sump overhaul!

Can't wait to upgrade ;)

Its the pump...which I guess is good news as its mechanical, not electronic which means it may be rectified. I'm gonna give it a long soak in citric acid to break down any calcification. It starts then stalls after a couple of rotations so it seems to be sensing a back wash or is catching on something. We'll see what happens.

Hi Webbo, will salt, lemon juice and coca cola not strip out any blockages ?

Was checking an american forum over christmas and that's what they used

It probably will Chris but I would stick with citric acid I don’t know the effects of coke a cola in a marine tank, even thouroughly cleaned I wouldn’t chance it

Right to get back on track

day 2 (not counting day of treatment)

the colour of the bryopsis has darkened and it looks weaker if you know what I mean. The lights have just come on so I will take a picture when they peak.

Fish and inverts all ok and feeding well, still more activity than normal from them .
