Anampses femininus - aka blue tailed tamarin wrasse are rare, beautiful and reef safe.

As with most anampses wrasse, it has a voracious appetite and it may occassionally nip clams or feather dusters etc.

Like many wrasse, the largest female will develop into a male, although there's no evidence of this happening in captivity. The survival rate is very poor on imported specimens in the UK.

They have a reputation for being jumpers, so a covered tank is recommended. They can be finicky feeders requiring multiple feeds a day but once established they can be taught to readily take flake and/or frozen food.

Not a fish for the faint hearted and you need to prepared to lose your money (and more importantly the fish) within the first few weeks of ownership if they have been mishandled in any way during the catching and shipping process.

They also require a sand bed of at least 2 inches to sleep in or retreat to if they feel threatened.
