Hi, I've never posted on here before so hope i'm doing it right!, I have an H Malu anemone which i feed every few day's with small chunks of prawn, approx three weeks ago I brought two tank bred common clowns, one of which has shown no interest in the anemone whatsoever, the other clown however has swam around the anemone and has gradually been getting closer and flicks itself very briefly in the anemones tentacles, this morning as usual this particular clown was hovering around the anemone, but when I looked again a bit later on today the clown fish had gone, These clowns are not shy at feeding time so I put some brine shrimp in the tank in the hope of the clown reapearing, but no!! the only other livestock in the tank are two Firefish, one Jewell blenny, one midas blenny, three cleaner shrimp and three small hermit crabs. Is it possible that the anemone has stung the clown or even eaten it?

I'd say it's very unlikely that the anemone has eaten your Clown. Is there a possibility that he's jumped?

However, it's sometimes hard to get tank bred Clowns to host anemones, so the Clowns behaviour could be normal (for them) in that respect. But I don't recall anyone saying their anemone ate their clown.

Hi,

My husband checked the weir and sump when we first noticed the clown missing, but have just double checked just in case but still no sign.

Anne.

you clown is either dead in the tank behind rocks jumped out of the tank so check the floor around your tank and yes it is possible for anenemes to eat clownfish i have seen it quite alot to be honest and if you ask other people about it they will probley tell you the same if you want your clownfish to host something its possible to get them to host a coral that looks like a aneneme that way you dont have to worry about them being eaten hope this helps
